Yesterday the monkies and I braved the 100+ temps, jumped into the truck and went thrifting. We scored some really cute dresses for Chloe's dress-up birthday party, and some fun hats, scarves etc. On the way home we made a quick stop in the little town of Lecompte (pronounced LA-Count) and snapped a few photos of this old car that is parked in front of Lea's pie shoppe.

I'm still on the runaway train, but have plans to JUMP OFF OF IT Thursday (our last day of school--woot!) I've been working on an altered board book in tiny bits, but really need one good day of being in the zone to complete it so I can get it into the mail to Miz Christine!
In other news....two weeks ago we were zapped by lightening. It must've come through the phone line and jumped into the breaker box because we had lots of things to get fried at once. I was on my laptop doing my thang when all of a sudden I heard the loudest BOOM I've ever heard in my life. I looked down at my laptop and it had blue flames and smoke shooting out of it. I couldn't feel my index finger for awhile, but all is well now. I've joked to friends that this incident left me with superpowers. All kidding aside though it scared me to death and we are very lucky that none of us were hurt or that the house caught on fire.
Since then we've been busy trying to get everything back up and running. The directv is back on, the computer has been fixed, as has the dryer, and all of the phone lines are repaired so we're back online (THANK YOU LORD!!) We did lose a big tv in our room, two sets of phones, and the dishwasher, but none of that is too terribly important.
Here are a few recent pics. The camera and I have been spending a lot of time together lately. I'm still playing around with some photoshop actions--some are a little "overdone" but I like the effect.

Hmmm it's been spring here for awhile already....I'm going to have to say the first spring thing we did was build a new deck outside the back door.

Road trip to OK to spend time w/ little sisters--I'm a bit homesick and missing my cousins too!

The grilled chicken salad I made for dinner the other night-the lettuce was so fresh,cold and crisp!

I must clear up a little something (ya'll are precious, but you crack me up)... when I talk about school and how busy it's been keeping me...I'm not talking about my education :D I volunteer (with the PTA--or PTO as we call it here) and towards the end of the year we.get.really.really.busy! All of us (and on a good day that *MIGHT* mean 5 people) are running on fumes and so anxious for the 21st to get here!! ONLY 20 more days woot!!! We're really looking forward to summer break!
During down time I've been playing with photoshop elements. Babysteps....but I'm learning. I found some great actions that make arting up my photos lots more fun. Here are a few recent things...
Mr J and Miz C...I promise I don't beat them regularly... I don't know why they look so woebegone in this photo--probably because they were bored with being my subjects and parked in front of a boring old white backdrop.

I was beginning to wonder if the kids and I were going to make it but we did. All that state testing is over and done with--all the snowcones, cotton candy, popcorn bags, and ice-cream cones have been handed out to each little munchkin that had to endure said tests, and now....--I'm FREE FREE FREE until the 20th. I have lots of plans of how "I" would like to spend this time, but Big Daddy is on the way home and I'm sure he will have his own ideas (not that I'll listen to them ahem :D sorry hon but it's true).
Must clean up that dark depressing pit of doom studio before I can get in there to have any kind of fun. I still need to rework my disintegration project (dumb dog), and get it outside so mother nature can do her "thang" in the short amount of time I have left before May 1st.
Ohhhh... here's some art I was able to finish while riding the crazy train that has been the last two weeks.
I hosted an altered compact swap and had so much fun holding all of those pretty little things in my greedy little paws hands before sending them on to their new homes. Please click here to see all of them--lots of eyecandy!

but not in the way I had hoped
All that's left of my lovely bundle (shown in the last post) is this...
I had moved it when I saw a certain yellow dog jumping up and trying to get it out of the tree.
A nice storm blew through and the aforementioned yellow dog ate it up when she found it on the ground.

I'm off to make up a new one and then I'll search for a safer place in which to put it till May.
I was so excited when I read about this project on Mr Seth's blog. There are already almost 100 participants! How cool is that?
I quickly threw together my little bundle this morning and hung it outside in a fig tree. I can't wait to see what it looks like on May 1st!
