A day in the life of Miz Carla

I appreciate the comments so much. I have decided to follow the advice of the majority and not move the studio into the front room (for now anyway). I will just organize the closet, add some more shelving and stay right here.

Saturday I made a few things for the Collage Cat group's art party... a wee art bucket from a  altered soup can, and some ATCs (that look awfully Valentinish, although I didn't intend them to). I'm gonna make and hang several of those little buckets on my studio walls in hopes of keeping up with all my paintbrushes and pencils.

Hope everyone is staying warm--it's even cold down here in south! brrrrr I don't know you guys in the northern states stand it.

Possible studio??

This is the room I mentioned last night, that I am thinkng of turning into a pretty studio. There are two negatives to this idea and they are 1) it's the first room you see when you come in through the front door (and we only use the front door). 2) It is right next door to a formal diningroom (that we so don't use). As you can see the room itself is a bit country/formal...If I did move my art stuff into this room, I'd have to keep the chandelier, the drapes, and the little matching lights beside the fireplace (which doesn't work). The furniture that is in there I would probably leave in there, but the wood pieces would be painted the creamy white that I am so crazy about. What do you think?

This is the view--standing in the dining room and looking towards the front door. The pocket doors lead to a bedroom, so they couldn't be blocked by anything.

This is the left hand side of the room. I would DIE if I messed up these gorgeous hardwood floors with art supplies ;)

Here is where the major design issues come into play. See how there is really no way to block off the front room from the diningroom? There is a lovely door way that my friend Emily suggested I put swinging brackets with a sheer panel on...just to soften the transition from one room to the other. Can you tell I watch too much HGTV?

Here are two pics from today's project. I got the hot pink wallpaper off of my son's bathroom walls.

Here you can see just how old and funky this bathroom is. This part of the house is original from the 1930's. Mostly it is in really good shape, it just needs some paint, and a few fixtures (and outlet covers) replaced. J picked out a really nice and fresh looking kiwi green color for the walls. We will keep the trim a creamy/beigey/white color.

Can't wait to hear what you guys think :D

I've got the *BEST* husband

On Valentines day these came.....

and then this morning the UPS man brought me a brand new Dell computer with a flat screen. woot woot!!! My old computer is sooo slow these days--I think loading photoshop elements onto it was the final straw. It has had enough of ME.

Can't seem to get myself motivated to do any art. I dug out a hard backed book earlier this evening, and prepped a few hundred pages w/ gesso and paint in hopes of using it as a paper catch-all in my purse. I am famous for losing receipts, delivery confirmation slips and other necessary to-keep-up-with paper bits--hoping this will help, as well as serve as a sketchbook/idea book.

My studio closet is a wreck and I'm thinking that is probably 99% of my problem. I'm thinking about turning the front room into a studio. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and post it here and ask you guys to please give me feedback as to whether you think it is a good idea or not. I still have my portable building studio, but it is still at the other house and we haven't looked for found anyone to move it yet. I also still have the big closet that I am in...I could store all of the unsightly art stuff in here and then maybe get some matchy-match furniture and shelves (I'm thinking shabby chic white stuff) to put in the front room ??? Will feel better after consulting with you guys :D

time to get some clothes out of the dryer.

A peek into my life

I promised pics of the work/cleaning/degrannitysing I have been doing on the house to my live journal friends, but LJ is messed up and I can't upload more than a couple of pictures there, so I decided to post them here.

I hate having dial-up. I'm used to not having to resize pictures, and you could see everything so much better and clearer..now everything is made smaller (so I'm not here all night uploading), and the pictures are all pixelish :(

This is the diningroom. The one right off of the kitchen that we actually use.

Our new diningroom table and chairs. I'm not sure if you can tell in the picture, but the table sits way up high (very comfortable).

This is the view from the diningroom table. See our giant bird feeder on the right hand side. The other morning the kids and I saw 8 birds in it at once.

This is the den. The huge room that gave me fits for the longest (because the furniture doesn't match) but now that I am used to it I like it...it'll do until we can get a couple of new 'big' sofas.

The 'reading' area, and the world's most ugly recliners... (at least they are comfortable).

I love this book case! It holds all of books, photo albums and DVDs.

I hope you enjoyed my little tour. As I get more rooms organized and completed, I'll show you those :D

Got these journal pages (in a raw/outsiderish "Pain is..." RR) in Miz Erin P.'s book done today. I had waaayyyy too much fun with the paint and expressing myself with it. I love these wild kind of journal swaps!

Off to work in my own journal now. Hope everyone is getting to sneak in a little art time!
